Air Humidity & Air Temperature Control Quality & Quantity of Crop Yield

Humidity is important for photosynthesis of plants and evaporation regulates the plant temperature through the open stomata. So, it is very important to keep the stomata of the plants open during irradiation for photosynthesis and absorb atmospheric carbon-di-oxide (CO2 ) for the proper growth of the plants. If stomata are open, photosynthesis is possible at even low sunlight. Reduced evaporation of the plant also helps the plants to keep stomata open.

The stomata get closed incase the plants lose too much of water due to low humidity & high air temperature. Thus, plants stop photosynthesis and no COcan be absorbed as the stomata are closed.

The closed stomata also increase the plant temperature very quickly and damage the plant. This excess heat may destroy the chlorophyll and the leaves turn yellow. If the heat increases further, it may leave behind permanent damages in various parts of the plants.

To keep stomata open, the humidity must be at the right level and not to let the EC increase too much when the demand for water is high. Humidity loss from the plant also can be avoided by keeping a higher humidity percentage in the field at the time of high irradiation. Stomata can also be kept open, where necessary by cooling the plants.

In case of low humidity and high temperature in the field, two methods can be followed -  1. Crop humidification & 2. Air humidification.
In crop humidification, the crop is moistened for direct cooling of the plants as the water on the plant evaporates.

With air humidification, droplets are introduced as fine mist. Energy is extracted from the atmosphere to evaporate the mist that reduces the air temperature.

Microclimate of the field can be improved by providing extra humidity by a good coverage and accurate watering of the field. By irrigating more often with smaller quantities, water from the soil evaporates from the moist top layer of the soil. It also improves the microclimate of the field.

Extra screening can be another option to minimize irradiation and improve humidity of the field.

Stomata of the plant must be open for maximum photosynthesis and optimum absorb  of CO2 for the best growth of the plants. No photosynthesis is possible in case the stomata are closed and the plants stop growing.

Productivity and quality yield of the crop are hugely affected if the field Microclimates i.e., Air Humidity and Air Temperature are not been checked and monitored regularly by the farmers.

Precise 24X7 field information, i.e., constant monitoring soil moisture content at the active root zone of the crop, Soil Temperature, Microclimates i.e., Air Temperature & Air Humidity of the field will help the farmers to decide when to irrigate & how much water to irrigate and tackle the challenges still delivering higher and better yields, even with much lesser water.
