Soil microbial activity reflects soil quality. Plants growth and their development rely on soil microorganisms to prepare organic nutrients of the soil. They biologically decompose plant litter and residues into soil organic matter, which is a stable reservoir of carbon and nitrogen. Soil microorganisms are a major determinant of efficient nutrient cycling in the soil. Therefore, microbial activity is extremely critical for numbers of soil reactions and functions that includes organic matter decomposition, humus formation, aggregate formation, nutrient cycling and stabilization.

Only environment optimization increases microbial activity in a soil and makes it favorable for plants growth & development. One must takes care of moisture, aeration and pH of the soil. Of course organic substrates in the soil must be present to carry out the activities of the microorganisms.

Along with moisture and the organic substrates, Soil Temperature plays the most important role in the activities of the microorganisms. Microbial activity is always higher at optimal soil temperature. Soil temperature changes immensely affect the microbial community.

Even organic & chemical fertilizer releases their nutrients only at warm temperatures.

Therefore, one must categorically check Soil Temperature on the regular basis to the take action to optimize it and makes it favorable for the microorganisms to work efficiently for healthier crops, improve yield and increase profit.

Soil temperature mostly depends on sunlight which varies according to season and climate. Following are other methods which a farmer can apply to control the soil temperature :

Air Humidity & Air Temperature Control Quality & Quantity of Crop Yield

  Humidity is important for photosynthesis of plants and e vaporation regulates the plant temperature through the open stomata. So, it is very important to keep the stomata of the plants open during irradiation for photosynthesis and absorb atmospheric carbon-di-oxide (CO 2 ) for the proper growth of the plants. If stomata are open, photosynthesis is possible at even low sunlight. Reduced evaporation of the plant also helps the plants to keep stomata open.   The stomata get closed incase the plants lose too much of water due to low humidity & high air temperature. Thus, plants stop photosynthesis and no CO 2  can be absorbed as the stomata are closed. T he closed stomata also increase the plant temperature very quickly and damage the plant. This excess heat may destroy the chlorophyll and the leaves turn yellow. Saturation and wilting point of soil

    v Saturation of soil :-                                          A condition in which all easily drained voids ( pores) between soil particles are temporarily or permanently filled with water . If soil remain saturated for too long , most plants will decline or die . A saturated soil decreases a plant’s a bility to take up water through its roots. A waterlogged soil decreases water taken up by plan ts. ·       Effect of soil saturation on trees and plants :-                              Adequate soil drainage or lack of adequate drainage ( also called soil saturation ) is influenced by soil texture ( percent of soil, slit and clay ) and soil structure. Growth and maintenance of root systems require large quantities of oxygen content and if it drops below 10% , root growth of most plants will be limited . In urban situations, construction activities may have altered the native soil therefore available pore space is greatly reduce in  compacted soil.
